Miss Michele 11/3/09
November 4, 2009
For November, we will be studying the Pilgrim’s trip across the cold Atlantic aboard the Mayflower, and their new life in America.
We are also studying the countries of Europe. So far, we have talked about Spain, the islands of Ireland and England, and the peninsula of Italy.
We presented a new lesson today using Indian corn, so we are all excited about having corn for snack.
First, we will have corn on the cob! Then, we plan to have creamed corn, cornbread, and corn tortillas.
Many years ago, I came across a beautiful book, Stone Soup, by John J Muth. It is full of beautiful, water color illustrations.
In this retelling of the traditional story, it is set in China. Since discovering this book, we have been celebrating our Thanksgiving by making our own Stone Soup.
We will ask each student to bring in something to add to our soup. Our soup will be vegetarian, and I will send home a note closer to Thanksgiving week, of what your child should bring.
We still are singing our Skeleton song. This morning, I shared our song and our skeleton with Primary II.
Today, we sang We are Thankful.
So far, we are thankful for:
Ellie–the trees & the animals.
Jake–my sister, my dad, my brother, God, and my mom.
Anna–the leaves & my sisters, and my mom & dad.
Jackson S.–my toys.
Jackson T.–my toys & my family & my mom.
Leo–Kate.
Ty–Mommy & Daddy.
Bryce–animals.
Ben: my mom’s baby.
Mia: my stuffed animals that my daddy got me.
Kaitlin: my watch my mommy bought for me.
Duncan: my mama and dada.
Margot: my stuffed animals.
Meredith: my mommy & daddy, & my gum ball machine, and my dog named Fifi with the pink collar on it.
Caroline: for Annabelle.
Matthew–the trees & the animals.
Adam–the water.
Jack–my 4-wheeler.
The rest of us are still thinking about what we are thankful for.
What are you thankful for?
