Playground

September 30, 2010

Dear Families of Plum Tree,

With some of our proceeds from our 2010 Mini Masters Art Show, we were able to mulch our playground around the equipment.
We love it!  It is much cleaner & safer than the rocks.

Our playground is more than a playground.  It is our outdoor classroom, where we learn about nature, caring for our planet,
composting, biology, and botany.

One of our families has generously offered to start a fund to finish the playground with mulch.
Brad, Colter’s father, who completed the first phase of the mulch, has drawn up a plan, along with an estimate of completion for $3985 .00.  We will be using our rocks for a pathway around the playground.

If you would like to contribute to our Playground Fund, please contact myself, or Caroline, our Office Manager.

Plum Tree Montessori School is a non-profit, 501c3 corporation, so all donations are tax deductible.

Thank you for all you do for Plum Tree!

Sincerely,

Miss Michele

Pajama Day

September 29, 2010

Wear your favorite pjs this Friday, October 1st!

Primary September 27, 2010

September 27, 2010

What a gorgeous day!

We completed the skeleton system today with the pelvis, femur, patella, tibia, fibula and phalanges!  At group, we discussed foods which helped strengthen our bones and teeth:  yogurt, milk, cheese, broccoli, ice cream, salads, beans, & “cheese puffs!”

From my office window,  I watched Miss Hannah and her friends march across the playground to compost.  I just love that!

At the end of our morning, we had our fire drill for September, and everyone stopped what they were doing and got in line!  Our second fire drill took less than 2 minutes.  We are ready!

What a gorgeous day!

Baby Product Recalls
Albee Baby/Sorelle Brand “Prescott” Cribs

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Albee Baby, announced the voluntary recall of the Sorelle brand “Prescott” fixed-sided cribs.  The cribs are re-labeled fix-sided Simplicity cribs that contain tubular metal mattress-support frames recalled in April 2010.  The mattress support frames can bend or detach, causing part of the mattress to drop, creating a space into which an infant or toddler can roll or become wedged, entrapped or fall out of the crib.  The recall is limited to only Sorelle “Prescott” cribs sold online by AlbeeBaby.com between July 2009 and October 2009 for between $180 and $210.  Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled cribs and contact Albee Baby for a replacement crib, store credit or refund toll-free at 877-692-5233 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday or visit their website at www.albeebaby.com.  C&T International/Albee Baby is also attempting to directly contact known consumers who purchased the recalled crib online.  For additional information, please click here: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10344.html

Edushape Giant Starbuilders and Giant Stars Building Sets

The U.S. CPSC, in cooperation with Edushape Ltd, announced the voluntary recall of the Giant Starbuilder and Giant Stars building sets.  The sets have plastic knobs that can break from the center of the star posing a choking hazard to young children.  The sets were sold to small retail stores nationwide and online at Target.com, Toys R Us.com, Amazon.com and CSN through Wal-Mart Market place from January 2007 through May 2010 for between $25 and $35.  Consumers should immediately take the recalled sets away from children and contact Edushape for a replacement set or credit towards another Edushape product of equal or lesser value.  Contact Edushape at 800-404-4744 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. EST. Infant Formula Recall

Beetle Contamination Leads To Similac Formula Recall
September 22, 2010
View and comment on NPR.org
Bugs may be the latest culinary treat for some, but we don’t think it’s a good idea for kids to be drinking formula contaminated with beetles and their larvae.Neither does health-products giant Abbott, which is recalling about 5 million containers of Similac powdered infant formula because of possible insect contamination.

The Food and Drug Administration says the Similac containing the bugs poses no immediate health risk. But infants who drink it could get stomachaches that might lead them to refuse food.

So, as a precaution, Abbott is recalling certain Similac lots distributed nationwide, as well as in Puerto Rico, Guam, and some Caribbean countries.

If you’re wondering if the Similac on your shelf is part of the recall, you can check the lot number here. None of the company’s liquid formulas are affected. Copyright 2010 National Public Radio. To see more, visit http://www.npr.org/.
