Dear Primary Families & Friends,

We started our study of North America today.  We learned where the United States is, and and we will begin our study of the states and everyone’s vacations!

As I mentioned before, this will take a while.  So, if you have not sent
anything in, you still have time.  Please let us know if you need any items
returned.  In honor of our states, we counted to 50 by tens.

Our geography maps are large, so we usually take them to a rug.  When we have
work to do on a rug, we get our rug first.  We use our pincer grasp to pick up
the continents and countries of the maps and place them on the rug or a control
chart.

Friday is our first Show and Share of the year.  Show & Share will be
held the last Friday of each month.  This is a special time that we look forward to each month.  Children are invited to bring an item to Show to their friends and Share with them.  Toy weapons are not allowed:  guns, knives, swords, light savers, etc.  This is the
only time children are invited to bring toys or other items to school.  We will
learn how to ask permission & how to take care of others belongings.  Show
and Share is also introduction to public speaking, as each child is invited to
come to the front of the class to Show and Share.  Items will be returned.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Miss Michele

Dear Toddlers Parents,

My name is Emilia Cordova, Miss Emilia, and for those of you whom I have not
had the chance to meet you in person, I am the Spanish teacher in the toddler
classroom.

Every day, I have a Spanish group lasting between 20-25 minutes long
depending of the children’s interest. Additionally, I speak to the children the
rest of the day either in Spanish or Spanish and then English in an effort to
familiarize them with the language. One of the things I pay special attention to
is the pronunciation which may eventually help not only with Spanish but with
other languages.

I start every day with greeting songs, counting numbers (1-20), verbs, and
something else like this past week’s theme was means of transportation,
specifically car, train, boat, and plane. This week in addition to a review of
the above themes we will work on the naming of colors.

During my group time, we sing several educational songs, followed by the
introduction of new vocabulary. So far the results have amazed me! I cannot
believe that in only two weeks some children have started to remember some words
as well as songs, and they seem to enjoy them as much as I do.

I appreciate the comments that some of you have mentioned about your
children’s progress in the Spanish area, they really encourage me!

Lastly, in the next few days we will have a meeting where our plans for the
year will be explained. I strongly encourage you to attend because you, as
parents, are key to the success of your children.

Have a wonderful week.

Sincerely,

Miss Emilia
