Miss Michele’s November Show & Share

November 14, 2009

At Plum Tree, Show and Share is the last Friday of each month.  This month, school will be closed due to Thanksgiving.

Each year, in November, Plum Tree’s Show & Share is to share a food item with families or individuals who are in need during Thanksgiving.

In the past, we have had non-perishable items given, as well as gift cards to local grocery retail stores.  Please talk with your child to learn what he or she may want to give.   This upcoming Friday, November 20, 2009, children are invited to Show & Share a gift  for our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.  A gift from a child is always a  special & precious gift.

Thank you,

Miss Michele

Nursery 11/1/09

November 1, 2009

Hello families!
We’ve had another great week in the nursery! The leaves are beautiful and the children watch them fall to the ground from the front door. Friday, Ms. Magan raked up a big pile of leaves and we threw them in the air and jumped in them.

The toddlers are working on learning our farm animals and we love to sing Old McDonald! We had a great time painting pumpkins this week for fall and are looking forward to starting winter crafts!

The babies are working hard with Ms. Carolyn on floor exercises! Two of the babies are sitting up now and have started solid foods.

The toddlers love the babies, and the babies enjoy watching the older children work and play around the house. There is much love in our little house and each day is filled with joy, watching the children grow and learn.

We hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween, and don’t forget about our Open House Saturday, November 7th. from 2-4 pm.

Ms. Carolyn & Ms. Jessica

November 4, 2009

For November, we will be studying the Pilgrim’s trip across the cold Atlantic aboard the Mayflower, and their new life in America.
We are also studying the countries of Europe.  So far, we have talked about Spain, the islands of Ireland and England, and the peninsula of Italy.
We presented a new lesson today using Indian corn, so we are all excited about having corn for snack.
First, we will have corn on the cob!  Then, we plan to have creamed corn, cornbread, and corn tortillas.
Many years ago, I came across a beautiful book, Stone Soup, by John J Muth.  It is full of beautiful, water color illustrations.
In this retelling of the traditional story, it is set in China.  Since discovering this book, we have been celebrating our Thanksgiving by making our own Stone Soup.
We will ask each student to bring in something to add to our soup.  Our soup will be vegetarian, and I will send home a note closer to Thanksgiving week, of what your child should bring.
We still are singing our Skeleton song.  This morning, I shared our song and our skeleton with Primary II.
Today, we sang We are Thankful.
So far, we are thankful for:
Ellie–the trees & the animals.
Jake–my sister, my dad, my brother, God, and my mom.
Anna–the leaves & my sisters, and my mom & dad.
Jackson S.–my toys.
Jackson T.–my toys & my family & my mom.
Leo–Kate.
Ty–Mommy & Daddy.
Bryce–animals.
Ben:  my mom’s baby.
Mia:  my stuffed animals that my daddy got me.
Kaitlin:  my watch my mommy bought for me.
Duncan:  my mama and dada.
Margot:  my stuffed animals.
Meredith:  my mommy & daddy, & my gum ball machine, and my dog named Fifi with the pink collar on it.
Caroline:  for Annabelle.
Matthew–the trees & the animals.
Adam–the water.
Jack–my 4-wheeler.
The rest of us are still thinking about what we are thankful for.
What are you thankful for?
